3G UTMS
The telecoms companies paid billions of pounds to the Exchequer for their 3G licences.
3G mobiles allow higher data throughput, make video calls a reality and can be used for expensive Internet access.
3G is the UK name for the UMTS standard which transmits at 2100MHz (although there’s plenty of variation around internationally).
The higher speed & frequency of this system requires more masts than the GSM network.
Any personal precautions you take with GSM apply equally to 3G.
You might be interested to know that you can record conversations on a ‘3’ 3g mobile using a standard microphone without the interference you’d normally get when recording from a GSM model. To record from GSM phones you need a WatsonMike 160 microphone.
